They bought the first player to be put up on the auctions, Gautam Gambhir, who was captain of the Delhi Daredevils last season, for the biggest sum of money – $2.4 million (11.4 crore). The previous best was in the previous editions of the tournament, Pietersen and Flintoff, both pegged at $1.55 million.

KKR also bought Yusuf Pathan for $2.1 million and Jacques Kallis for $1.1 million. They were left with $3.4 million for 3 IPL players but had three of the match-winners in their side. The others they chose was previous year’s selection, Manoj Tiwary ($475,000), Bangladeshi Shakib al Hasan ($425,000), Brett Lee ($400,000), Eoin Morgan for $350,000 and wicket-keeper Brad Haddin for $325,000.
